After some of the KBBQ places we used to visit in Myeongdong closed down (Kang Ho Dong & Loco Quan 401), we were at a loss as to where else we could eat at.
Luckily for us, we chanced upon this ahjumma giving out flyers for Hwanggeum Mokjang and thought that the prices were decent, so we headed up to take a look!

According to Visit Korea’s website:
Located in Myeongdong, Hwanggeum Mokjang Myeongdongseongdang is a Korean barbecue restaurant in Myeongdong. It is a popular place for locals and tourists alike as it serves high-quality beef and pork barbecued in the Korean style. Other dishes such as samgye tang (ginseng chicken soup), bulgogi, naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles), and many other dishes are also a must-try.
We didn’t know it was a popular K-BBQ place, but it did explain why the restaurant got a Good Restaurant certification from the government!

We were a little overwhelmed by all the different beef & pork parts that we could order (also note: they only offer beef & pork cuts!).
If I recall correctly, we ended up ordering the Sirloin (my personal favourite!) and pork shoulder.
Before putting the meat on the grill, the staff actually measures the temperature of the grill, to see if it has reached the ideal temperature of 240 degrees. They’ll attend to you and help you to grill your meat to perfection, so no need to worry!

Each cut of meat is grilled one by one, supposedly to preserve the flavour of each cut. The staff then cleans the grill to ensure it doesn’t burn or smell of grease.

I have no special feelings about the pork, but I was in love with the beef. We actually ended up having seconds and going back to the same restaurant again on the same trip. In fact, it left such a deep impression on us that we went back to Hwanggeum Mokjang again the following year!
Even from photos alone, you can tell that the beef slices are juicy and tender, without being overcooked. They’re very prime cuts and the way the staff cooked the beef also ensures that the flavour is retained.
We liked it so much that we finished most of the meat on their own. However, you can actually dip it in the sauces and salt offered by the restaurant as well.

I really enjoyed all the beef we had at Hwanggeum Mokjang. Highly recommend coming here if you’re also a beef & K-BBQ lover!!
Unfortunately I forgot to take photos of the menu & prices, but you can find them here on Creatrip.
They have 2 branches (Myeongdong Central and Myeongdong Cathedral). I’ve only visited the one in the Central so I can’t comment on the quality at the other branch.
TIP: you can actually make a reservation beforehand. This can be pretty favourable especially if you’re ordering for a big group!
