I might have a thing for revitalised villages in Korea.
Having previously visited Seoul’s Bukchon Hanok Village, Busan Gamcheon Culture Village, Jeju Folk Village, and Jeonju Hanok Village, the next on my list was Jeonju’s Jaman Mural Village. This was actually just a stone’s throw from the Hanok Village, which made it a must-visit when we had time to explore Jeonju.
This mural village is located in the ridge between Omokdae and Imokdae along the foot of Seungamsan Mountain’s Jungbawi Rock, making it a fairly steep walk up. It used to be one of Jeonju’s ‘daldongnae’ (poor hillside village). However, murals drawn by talented local artists has transformed Jaman Village into one of the top attractions in Jeonju.
It was a short walk away from Jeonju Hanok Village where we were staying at, so it’s not too far from the main attractions. I do have to warn though that walking up the slope can be a particularly challenging task – but also a great workout!
What to see and do at Jaman Mural Village

We went fairly early in the morning as we started our day early, which also meant that there were no crowds and the residential area was really quiet.
However, that also meant that we could appreciate the murals and take photos unhindered, which was a major plus point.
P.S. do note that like other villages, this is a residential area with many people actually staying in these houses. Please be considerate, keep your volume down, and do not pose any inconvenience to the residents here!

My personal favourite had to be this Goblin mural – complete with my favourite quote!

Some residences may leave seats outside for you to take photos with the murals, which is a pretty sweet thought.

Is Jaman Mural Village worth visiting?
I think whether or not attractions like these are worth visiting, really boils down to individual preferences.
If you think there’s nothing more to it than just looking at pretty and colourful mural paintings, you may not enjoy this as much.
However, do note that Jaman Mural Village can get pretty lively with activities & events . You’ll need to come later in the day though, perhaps around evening. That is also why the neighbourhood seems a a bit quiet in the day time.
Their murals may also change from time to time, so there’s always a good reason to visit every time you’re in Jeonju!
