There are many locations and attractions in Korea specially made for K-pop fans. And as you can tell from the name of this location, the Hallyu K-Star Road is definitely targeted at K-pop fans.
According to the KoreaToDo website, this road was actually a branding project by Gangnam, specially targeted at foreign tourists to get them immersed in the Hallyu wave!
What to see at Hallyu K-Star Road
The main attractions on the Hallyu Kare the gangnamdols and K-pop entertainment agencies. The agencies you’ll find here are SM, JYP, FNC, and BH Entertainment.
Of course, the true attraction for most K-pop fans would probably be the chance to catch their favourite artistes along Hallyu K-Star Road.
However, from experience I can say that it’s certainly not as easy as you would think!

Do note that the locations of entertainment agencies may not be updated though, as JYP’s HQ in Gangnam has reportedly been sold off.
Now if you’re wondering what Gangnamdols are, Visit Seoul explains the term as a human-scale bear doll with symbolic images of the famous K-pop groups printed on it.
Unfortunately, I went to Hallyu K-Star Road a rainy day. Hence, all the gangnamdols were wet! It didn’t stop me from taking photographs, but the gangnamdols were all dripping wet in them, which clearly didn’t make for very nice photos.
I didn’t take photos of all the gangnamdols, and I suppose they may have added or removed some since my trip there in 2017.
Apparently 17 gangnamdols in total are scattered across Hallyu K-Star Road. However, I am not sure if this number is updated!

I wonder if the TVXQ! gangnamdol is still there after the scandal. I have no idea!

Also just noticed there is a Korea Post office right opposite the road. Perfect if you need to send all your shopping loots back home!
Now, you may scoff at coming all the way here to look at some bear statues, but the real highlight is that some of these dolls have been signed by the respective idols!
The signatures are not on all the dolls though so the fun is in checking every single doll to see if you can find any. The idols’ signatures are usually on the back:

I have a very bad feeling that their signatures will eventually be washed away by rain and snow. As you can see, some of these are already so faded!
In any case, I highly encourage you to go to Hallyu K-Star Road as soon as you can to take photographs of your idols’ signatures before they disappear!
Is K-Star Road free?
Yes, fortunately the road is free to visit!
However, the shops nearby are mostly luxury brand stores like LV and Gucci, and those are definitely not free nor budget-friendly.
Is it worth visiting Hallyu K-Star Road?
Overall, there’s really nothing much to do here besides taking photographs or hoping to bump into your favourite idols. This attraction will probably only appeal to you if you’re a K-pop fan.
Having visited Gangnam and Apgujeong a few times, I still think there’s nothing much affordable to do in such a wealthy neighbourhood. Hence, I would not suggest coming here if you’re not that keen on K-pop.
Alternatively, you could treat it as a ‘learning journey’ and see how the rich in Korea live. I guess?
Tip: Check the weather forecast before coming down! You really don’t want to stand out here in the rain and snow to take photos of wet gangnamdols.
