Most travel guides would recommend that you rent a car to get around Jeju. Many residents get around by car, buses take forever to come despite the multiple bus stops, and taxis are few and far between.
Having experienced the inconvenience during my 2017 summer trip, I was also fully convinced that the best way to travel around Jeju in 2024 was by renting a car.
Why did we rent from LOTTE Jeju Auto House?
We looked around for some car rental options in Jeju and eventually picked LOTTE Rent-a-car’s service at Jeju Auto House. There were quite a number of plus points of renting with LOTTE in comparison to the other companies, including:
- Early return: In case of early return, the difference is refunded.
- Snow chains: provided free of charge during winter season (very important!)
- 24 hours accident and maintenance: immediate dispatch services to the site in case of accident or vehicle breakdown throughout rental period.
- Full Exemption Collision Damage Waiver: No deductibles & No compensation fee for inoperable vehicle. Also includes tire and wheel damage – tire puncture repair cost will be refunded if paid on site.
In addition to those points above, we actually got additional perks from signing up as a member with LOTTE Rent-a-car, including:
- 8% discount (this can go up to 60%)
- Free GPS was also included (do note that this is not provided by all companies)
- Free shuttle bus service to and fro Jeju Auto House & Jeju Airport
How much did we pay for our Jeju car rental?
In total, we paid KRW 215k for a 6-day car rental of a new Kia K3, inclusive of insurance. You can indicate which car model you would like to rent – they also offer EVs like Teslas!

What is the rental process like?
After confirming the car rental online, the actual process is actually very simple!
- After touching down at Jeju Airport, heada to the airport desk (Gate No.2, Domestic Arrival Hall) and provide the name of which the reservation is booked under.
- After exiting through Jeju Airport Gate 5, cross the crosswalk.
- Follow the signs to the rental car shuttle bus stop and go to the pedestrian
lane to the right. - The shuttle bus parks at 1-4 area inside the parking lot and comes in 8 min intervals, so you don’t have to wait too long.
- The shuttle bus will drive you to LOTTE rent-a-car Jeju Auto House.
- Once you reach, head to the desk and present your identification and requirements, then sign the rental contract and “Consent to collection and use of credit card information” form.
- After making your payment, the staff will lead you to the parking lot to check the car.
- You are ready to drive off!

How is the return process like?
Returning the car is also a fuss-free process:
- After arriving at Jeju Auto House, park your car at the return area.
- Their staff will quickly check the car’s overall condition, fuel level, and mileage.
- You may pay additional fees such as fuel cost, if any.
Our personal experience is that the car inspection was very quick and simple. They didn’t purposely try to find faults like scratches, bumps etc to try and charge extra fees, which we appreciated!
All in all, we really enjoyed the car rental with LOTTE Rent-a-car. Would definitely highly recommend to anyone who’s exploring car rental options in Jeju!
