MBC World: theme park for K-drama fans

For those who are big fans of Korean dramas, you may want to visit the filming sets and broadcasting companies during your trip to Seoul.

While I visited MBC’s HQ in Yeouido in 2017, I didn’t really see anything exciting. Hence, I thought I would pay a visit to MBC World in Digital Media City instead, where SBS and CJ E&M are also located.

MBC World is Korea’s first hallyu theme park opened by major broadcasting company MBC. The park offers experiences such as hologram K-pop concerts, virtual reality drama sets, and learning dance moves.

Plus point: This was the filming location for Avengers, and Kill Me, Heal Me!

It took us some time to walk to MBC World from the station. Not the most pleasant walk in the winter cold tbh, but it was manageable.

Also, look out for the handprints of your favourite celebs on the ground!

MBC World is divided into 3 zones, aptly labelled M, B, and C. When you buy your admission tickets, the staff will give you a map, explain what the different zones are, and then draw out a recommended route for you.

We spent a total of about 2 hours at MBC World, but you may spend slightly less if you are not that keen on taking photos.

In summary, MBC World is, well, a place filled with photo ops. There are machines for you to take photos with virtual celebs, drama sets, costumes etc.

These will excite you if you are a big fan of MBC dramas and variety shows, but if you are not familiar with them, you’ll find yourself highly confused and probably bored.

For your reference, some famous MBC shows include Coffee Prince, W, Dae Jang Geum, and We Got Married. If none of these names ring a bell, I would suggest you give this attraction a miss 😂

At the end of your visit, you can go to the souvenir shop and buy some MBC merchandise, and then hop over to SBS and CJ E&M for some more celebrity spotting 👀

To be honest, I thought it wasn’t really worth it to pay 18,000 won for a place filled with photo ops. I don’t think I’ll come back again either, because they probably don’t change the exhibits very often, though I would be happy to be proven wrong!

We only came because we wanted to have a look at the broadcasting company, and it did pay off! One exciting highlight that happened during my time at MBC World was seeing a celeb – N from VIXX!

If you are lucky, you may happen to see other celebs going in and out of the building as well!

About Me

Hi! I’m Tofu V from Singapore.

My love for Korea stemmed from a love of K-pop and K-dramas that started more than a decade ago. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit Korea both as a tourist and a student. I’ve accumulated interesting experiences (mostly good, occasionally bad) along the way as I try my best to see as much of Korea as possible, and this blog is an accumulation of all that I’ve learned and tried.
