It’s been some time since I updated but yes I am back!
Since my last post in 2022, I have made 2 trips to Korea (2023 and 2024), so I’ll need to make quite a few updates.
I wanted to start first with our impromptu honeymoon in Jeju that just took place last month. We literally just booked flights and accommodation one week before and flew off on the night after our wedding 😂
While I was aware that it was still winter in Korea, we hadn’t known that temperatures would fall below zero. Our Airbnb host told us the week before that temperatures ranged between 7 and 15 degrees. Imagine our shock when the first thing we saw after landing in Jeju was snow!
We were strongly recommended by our kind Airbnb host to visit Road 1100 for the best winter views on our last day.
I was initially not keen because it was a little way off from our Airbnb in Pyeongdae Village. I didn’t see much point in going there if the views were not that great, but we decided to just try our luck since we had no plans anyway.
What is Road 1100?
For some context, Road 1100 connects the north & south of Jeju and got its name because it reaches an altitude of 1100 meters as it travels over Hallasan Mountain.
What to do and see on Road 1100?
The roads were closed off for a few days due to the heavy snowfall and strong winds. Hence, we took the chance to go when conditions were better and we were STUNNED by how beautiful everything was.
We had seen snow and some crazy snow flurries during our trip, but this was nothing we had imagined!

Just see how the snow blankets everything in its way and transforms Hallasan into a stunning winter wonderland! It was difficult to believe that this was the same Jeju I visited a few summers ago with the sunny beaches.
We were also quite impressed that the roads were clear of snow and generally safe. We managed to drive the whole way without using snow tires or chains. This is good to take note of if you’re driving a rented car to Road 1100.
However, do take note of the vehicle & human jams! There’ll be an insanely long line of cars waiting to drive on Road 1100. Almost everyone stops by the road side to take photos or play with the snow. It is quite chaotic even with traffic police around.
Hordes of locals and tourists will also make their way there, especially on weekends.
