For our Jeju trip earlier this year, we had made little to no plans on where to eat. Hence, we actually just checked out recommended restaurants on Naver Maps. We trusted the reviews, and randomly hopped into whichever one looked decent.
On this day, we were on our way to Jeongbang Waterfall but didn’t know where to eat. However, we chanced upon Sol Dongsan Meat Noodle Soup which had rave reviews, and decided to give it a shot.
We saw a few locals loitering around the entrance of the restaurant as soon as we approached. It wasn’t really long enough to be considered a queue at that time. However, we soon realised that most people just came to get a queue number and then left to wait elsewhere!
We had to wait for about half an hour before we finally got a seat in the restaurant. I didn’t take any photos, but it was a quaint little restaurant at the front of the Chilsimni Food Street.

The first thing I heard when I entered the noodle restaurant was a customer exclaiming that the noodles were “SO GOOD” after they have finished their meal. This was when I knew that we had come to the right place.
Most of the options on the menu are pork noodles, but their most famous dish is none other than the ‘half-half’ noodles. This is ‘half dry meat noodles, half soup meat noodles’. You’ll understand once you see photos of the bowl:

The concept is a bit like the half-jjampong half jjajangmyeon combination you get in Korean-Chinese cuisine.
While I haven’t tried that before, I absolutely LOVED this dry/soup meat noodle combination. This was perfect for those who have problems deciding which variation they prefer, especially if they’re eating here for the first time. It also works for those who just want to enjoy the best of both worlds!
I really liked the kick of the gochujang sauce in the dry version, while the soup one was a hearty and flavourful surprise. The soup wasn’t too salty and I wiped out everything!

I truly understood why Sol Dongsan Meat Noodle Soup had such long queues and why the customers were raving about the meal afterwards. I myself couldn’t help being amazed by how delicious everything was!
Unfortunately I didn’t note down the prices, but from what I recall it was around the KRW 10,000 range – about USD 10, though it could be lower.
If you’re on the way to Jeongbang Waterfall and are not sure where to eat, or just want to give this half-half noodle a try, do drop by Sol Dongsan Meat Noodle Soup!
Quick tip: try to go super early or a bit later to beat the lunch crowd.
