The Rose Street Artists’ Market: weekend market for crafty finds

,

Singapore has a number of weekend markets, ranging from thrift vintage to crafty makers’ markets. I quite enjoy visiting them from time to time to see if I have any luck in getting any exciting items. Hence, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to visit The Rose Street Artists’ Market.

We actually visited the market after brunch on the way from The Fitz Cafe & Rooftop.

The Fitzroy neighbourhood is known for being a trendy cultural hub with the best independent shops, vintage wares, and locally designed good. The residential houses here are also very gorgeous!

Pretty camellias we saw in the neighbourhood

What to do and buy at The Rose Street Artists’ Market

The market is easy to spot from afar, thanks to the huge signages demarcating the area.

The Rose Street Artists’ Market is said to boast some of Melbourne’s best artists, designers, crafters, and makers.

The market was bustling but not to the point of being too crowded, which I appreciated. I had the terrible experience of visiting Makers’ Market in Singapore on a particularly crowded weekend and I told myself never again! It’s nearly impossible to properly browse all the booths and their wares when you’re squished between people.

At The Rose, there were many booths selling the usual crafts, such as pottery, stickers, paintings etc. There are also some hawking food and beverage items, including what I think is a spin on the famous Laoganma sauce.

I have a penchant for quirky and cute characters on stationery, so my favourite among all the businesses there was probably this one called inner baby:

Who could resist cute, bright, cheery, and sarcastic wares that perfectly express my existential dread?

I do have to admit that some of the items were rather pricey and out of my budget, so I didn’t get around to buying them. Would have loved to take one of their posters home though!

While I held back on buying those, I couldn’t resist these jade earrings from Amerlay. I had been looking at jade jewellery for some time but always found the options in Singapore too pricey, so I was quite happy to get these ones from the market at a reasonable price of AUD 42. The brand claims to use high-quality Myanmar jade in their pieces, and I can tell that they do look really good!

Ended up getting two pairs because I couldn’t decide which one I liked better

While we didn’t spend a lot of time at The Rose Street Artists’ Market, I did enjoy the selection of crafts for sale and was extremely tempted to buy a lot more than I could bring home.

If you’re a fan of unique handmade homeware and cute stationery, you’ll definitely want to check this out!

I think the booths are fairly consistent across the weekends but there may be new vendors now and then. My recommendation is to check out the directory and plan beforehand what you’re keen in, so you can figure out what’s worth checking out (and maybe work out a rough budget first too haha).

About Me

Hi! I’m Tofu V from Singapore.

My love for Korea stemmed from a love of K-pop and K-dramas that started more than a decade ago. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit Korea both as a tourist and a student. I’ve accumulated interesting experiences (mostly good, occasionally bad) along the way as I try my best to see as much of Korea as possible, and this blog is an accumulation of all that I’ve learned and tried.
