bb.q Chicken: best fried chicken & beer chain in Korea

You can’t visit Korea without having tried KFC, aka Korean Fried Chicken. And if you can, you shouldn’t miss the best pairing of chimaek, aka chicken + maekju (beer).

Korea has a few big fried chicken brands & franchises, and I’ve personally tried quite a few of them. However, I can safely say that my favourite of all time has to be bb.q Chicken. And my favourite branch? The one in Myeongdong!

A lot of people convinced me that bhc was the go-to fried chicken brand in Korea, but the queues are always so long that they honestly turn you off before you even get to eat it.

However, we chanced upon bb.q Chicken that was also pretty popular, and decided to give it a shot. Since then, we’ve only gone to bb.q Chicken to satisfy our chimaek cravings in Korea.

You can’t do chimaek without a good beer. Unfortunately the rumour is true that Korean beers are very watered down (on par with their Americanos), but bb.q Chicken’s craft beers are seriously good.

Unfortunately I didn’t take a photo of the beer menu and can’t seem to find it online, but from what I recall they had 2-3 types of craft beers. One was more malty, and another more fruity. We ordered a mix of both to try and both were equally delicious!

During our first time at bb.q Chicken, we ordered this sharing plate. This should be a mix of Gold Olive Fried Chicken (their specialty) and Spicy Yangnyeom. It comes with sides of seaweed fries and fried mozzarella cheese balls.

It’s a little hard to believe but 3 of us struggled to finish this whole plate.

We learned our lesson and ordered only the chicken during our second time at bbq. Chicken, the same branch in Myeongdong.

This portion was just nice for 4 people, and we made sure to order all boneless chicken pieces!

What made their chicken so appetising was the fact that it was sufficiently crispy on the outside, yet superbly tender on the inside. The spicy yangnyeom sauce was, unfortunately, way too spicy for my liking, but my companions who love spicy food were in love with it!

Delicious fried chicken, paired with the most refreshing Korean craft beer, honestly made for a very comforting meal. I love having this in autumn and winter, but I imagine it’s just as satisfying in summer as well.

The next time you are in Myeongdong and tempted to join the long queue for bhc chicken, my advice is to skip it and come straight to bb.q Chicken instead. There’s little waiting time and the food is just as tasty, if not better!

About Me

Hi! I’m Tofu V from Singapore.

My love for Korea stemmed from a love of K-pop and K-dramas that started more than a decade ago. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit Korea both as a tourist and a student. I’ve accumulated interesting experiences (mostly good, occasionally bad) along the way as I try my best to see as much of Korea as possible, and this blog is an accumulation of all that I’ve learned and tried.
