Jeongbang Falls is one of the Jeju’s top 3 falls, along with Cheonjiyeon Falls and Cheonjeyeon Falls.
Chasing waterfalls is a must-do (kinda) in Jeju. Having previously visited Cheonjeyeon, we thought it made more sense to check out Jeongbang Falls this time round. It is also very unique in that it is the only fall in Korea where water falls directly into the sea!
Jeongbang Waterfall is earmarked as a historic site – and also why you’ll find the Seobok Exhibition Hall nearby. Those who are familiar with China history may know the name Seobul/Seobok or 徐福. He set sail to find the elixir on behalf of China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang 秦始皇.

While you probably won’t find the Seobulgwacha words in Jeongbang Waterfall, you certainly can walk up close enough to try! This is also what makes Jeongbang Waterfall unique.

It’s a bit far but if you look closely, you can see that the water from the waterfall goes directly into the sea.

Once you descend the stairs (thankfully not steep), you’ll spot many locals hanging around the rocks at the foot of the waterfall!
Some of the ahjummas there are actually preparing and selling seafood. They serve food to the visitors who are keen to eat with the gorgeous view.

Many locals also come here with their own food and stools for a scenic mid-day picnic.

Even if you’re not keen on having a picnic here, don’t miss out on going up close to the waterfall for photos. Word of caution: the rocks are VERY slippery! If you’re planning to get close, remember to wear shoes with better grip.

After you’re done taking photos, sit down on one of the rocks and enjoy the beautiful sea view. We were very lucky that we went on a bright and sunny day.
This is especially considering that we had snow flurries almost everyday in Jeju!

Done with the sightseeing at Jeongbang Waterfall? There’s still more to explore in the area!
For those who are keen to learn more about China history (yes, ironic) and about Seobul’s travels, do visit the Seobok Exhibition Hall that is around the corner.
While I’m not very knowledgeable on this matter, what I gleaned from the exhibition was that he (& his story) had some impact on the island. In fact, it is also said that Seogwipo derived its name from Seobul, meaning “Seobul Headed Back West”!

I personally really enjoyed the views at Jeongbang Waterfall. But I admit that some people may not fully appreciate driving here just to see this! I was also very wary about the slippery rocks at the foot of the waterfall, which kind of dampened the experience.
Do also note that seeing Jeongbang Waterfall is not free! Entrance fee is 2,000 won for adults and 1,000 won for children.
