There’s nothing more we love than trying new desserts in Korea. While they’re very common in countries like Japan, they can be surprisingly a little difficult to find in Korea.
We had heard about this popular Korean donut shop for years, but never got around to trying Cafe Knotted,.
As fate would have it, we were on our way to Sol-sot in Apgujeong when we spotted the OG store right across the road! It was hard to miss the iconic 2-storey yellow building and we were really excited. In fact, we rushed right over for dessert once we had finished our lunch at Sol-sot.
The after-lunch queue was slightly long and the place was packed, but most people were buying takeout so we managed to get seats.
From what I know we were already pretty lucky because the usual queues, especially on weekends, are SUPER long. We only had to wait for a couple of customers before it was our turn to order. Hence, good tip is to go on weekdays to avoid long queues!
Cafe Knotted: food review
We ordered four donuts in these flavours: Milk Cream, Earl Grey, Mint Choco, Kaya Butter. One for each of us!

As a Singaporean, I was a bit skeptical about the Kaya Butter one because it would either not taste like the real thing – our kaya butter toasts are honestly difficult to replicate – or just taste very strange in a donut. However, my travel companions were game to try it so I just let it be haha.
We were too eager to eat the donuts so I didn’t manage to snap many photos. But it was honestly so, so good that I could finally understand the hype around it.
Cafe Knotted packed the donuts with delicious flavoured cream that didn’t taste cloying or oily or overly sweet. If you look at the photo you can tell that they are really very generous with the amount of cream piped into each donut. This is much better than some other donut chains where they only pipe a smattering of cream in the centre.
The dough is chewy and fluffy enough and has a good amount of sugar frosting. I actually think if Cafe Knotted ever plans to do a plain donut, it would taste pretty good.
Is Cafe Knotted worth trying?
Their donuts are either KRW 3,000 or 3,500 each (USD 3 – 3.50). I can’t remember exactly how much each costs but I think the basic flavours like Milk Cream and Earl Grey would be 3,000, whereas Kaya Butter would be KRW 3,500.
Frankly, I did find the donuts a little pricey. Other donut chains like Mister Donut charge a bit less, but this is honestly such a great dessert to try when you’re travelling!
If you’re not in the Apgujeong area, you can also consider checking out their other stores around Seoul and Jeju. They do have a few popup stores with the same menu but space might be a constraint, so you’ll likely have to order takeout!
