Jeju Roe Deer Observation Center: view & learn about roe deers

,

You might have heard about seeing deer in Nara Park, Japan. However, did you know that other than Seoul Forest, you can also see deer in Korea at the Roe Deer Observation Center?

Jeju’s Roe Deer Observation Center was opened in August 2007 and offers visitors a chance to look at over 200 deer ‘romping around the field’. You also get the chance to learn more about the life of a roe deer, and even feed them!

To be honest, I think romping around the field is a bit of a stretch, because all the deer we saw were lazing around. Maybe it was because it was in the afternoon, and they were all having food coma from lunch?

We also didn’t see as many as 200 deer, but maybe it was because we didn’t pay to buy food to feed the deer so they just weren’t interested in coming to us. This was a bit like our experience in Alpaca World, where we were swamped by alpacas only when we had food on hand.

There weren’t many visitors at the observation center during our visit, just a few families with young children.

Other than looking at the deer lazing around, you can also learn more about roe deer through exhibits in the center. There is a theatre that plays a documentary on roe deer’s life in the center. Frankly it was quite informative, but everything looked a tad old and outdated.

Is it worth visiting Jeju Roe Deer Observation Center?

We didn’t spend a lot of time here. 2 hours should be sufficient for a good tour around the place.

In fact, I think it would be better to visit this center in autumn or winter instead of summer. Fallen leaves or snow would cover the grounds, making it look extra scenic – almost like a scene out of Bambi!

About Me

Hi! I’m Tofu V from Singapore.

My love for Korea stemmed from a love of K-pop and K-dramas that started more than a decade ago. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit Korea both as a tourist and a student. I’ve accumulated interesting experiences (mostly good, occasionally bad) along the way as I try my best to see as much of Korea as possible, and this blog is an accumulation of all that I’ve learned and tried.
