Raw Brew & Dine: affordable & delicious brunch place in JB

We cleared the Johor Bahru customs late and were famished, but didn’t get want to settle for the typical options at the malls. We also didn’t want to always visit our usual Space Café, which offered fantastic coffee but not much meal options.

Hence, we did a quick Google search and found this café called Raw – Brew & Dine. It was located just a few minutes’ drive from the customs.

Their brunch menu is pretty extensive and features many classics like egg benedict, toasts, burgers, and fried chicken waffles. As you can tell, we really went all out and ordered a lot to eat, which is typically what happens when the exchange rate simply makes eating much cheaper in Malaysia for Singaporeans:

My parents got the Salmon Bowl (RM 25). As the name suggests, this healthy bowl comprises teriyaki salmon, cucumbers, wakame seaweed, cherry tomatoes, kaffir corn, ebiko roe and nori.

It really tastes as healthy as the name sounds, which is great!

To balance it out, we also got some Korean Crispy Wings (3pcs, RM 18) and Shoestring Fries (RM 15) to share.

Personally, I don’t enjoy eating chicken wings, but this one from Raw Brew & Dine was pretty good. I also find that a lot of places tend to overcharge for fries, and even this plate was a bit pricey. Their Shoestring Fries are pretty delicious though, so I guess it was quite worth it.

Raw’s Signature Swiss Rosti

I ordered the Raw’s Signature Swiss Rosti (RM 30) from their brunch menu for myself. They claim that it’s Switzerland famous crispy potato fritters with sliced avocado.

You get to choose whether to add streaky beef bacon, chicken ham, cooked salmon, or chicken sausage. Eggs-wise, you’ll have the choice of either sunny side up, scramble egg, or 63 °c sous vide egg. I can’t remember why I got the cooked salmon and scrambled egg – probably because we ate late and that was all they had left.

It’s typical brunch fare, but they really did their rosti well. I’ve tried rosti from other places where it was either just potato strips soaked in a puddle of oil, or dry strips. This one from Raw Brew & Dine, however, was done much better.

I just wished they served more avocado though.

My parents aren’t the biggest fans of café fare, but they actually enjoyed the fare at Raw Brew & Dine. I also thought that this was one of the better food places we’ve visited in Johor Bahru that was really worth the price paid.

Definitely coming here again for brunch if we’re back in Johor Bahru!

About Me

Hi! I’m Tofu V from Singapore.

My love for Korea stemmed from a love of K-pop and K-dramas that started more than a decade ago. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit Korea both as a tourist and a student. I’ve accumulated interesting experiences (mostly good, occasionally bad) along the way as I try my best to see as much of Korea as possible, and this blog is an accumulation of all that I’ve learned and tried.
