The Brunch Concept: simple & hearty brunch fare in Jeju

, , ,

We ended up eating a lot of brunch in Jeju as we often woke up late (oops) and decided we might as well just skip breakfast and get brunch.

While there are many cafés around the island, most of them only offer coffee and pastries. Great as a breakfast option, not so much for brunch.

However, we chanced upon this brunch café called The Brunch Concept. It clearly served brunch, had some pretty good reviews, and was on the way to Haepoom Farm on our itinerary.

What we ate at The Brunch Concept

The interior was also very gorgeous – forgot to snap photos so will grab from their Instagram!

The staff seemed pretty young, which could explain the vibes and fare served at The Brunch Concept.

We ordered the 2-person brunch set (34,000 KRW). Each brunch set comes with sausages, soup, sourdough bread, scrambled eggs, bacon, salad, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, and hashbrowns.

The variety of ingredients included was actually quite impressive, considering that each brunch set cost 17,000 KRW.

I find it very sweet how they offer olive oil and tomato sauce together in the plate. It seems that the brunch set was very well thought out!

Taste-wise, I don’t think there was anything particular to shout out about. It was pretty standard – delicious in a very ordinary way, if you know what I mean?

I do have to give them props for making the dishes less oily than I expected. With ingredients like sausages, bacon, and hashbrowns, you would sometimes expect the whole dish to be an oily mess.

If you find the brunch set a little too filling for your liking, there are also other options on the menu that you can choose from.

Their other signature dish is avocado kimchi fried rice. You can also have more standard brunch fare like eggs in hell (aka shakshuka), tomato bruschetta, and cereal toast.

Is it worth eating at The Brunch Concept?

During our time there, there were only one or two other families/couples enjoying a leisurely brunch. Granted, it was a weekday, so it might be not be as crowded as the weekends.

Nonetheless, I did like the chill and quiet environment. I did realise that the cafés in Jeju are a lot quieter than those in Singapore and even Seoul. Coupled with the gorgeous snow views and clear blue skies, there’s arguably no better way to spend your morning.

However, like I mentioned, I think that the food was pretty ordinary. While the brunch set was certainly value for money, the drinks were a different story.

The hallabong juice set us back 6,500 KRW, which I honestly thought was very pricey. Even an Americano was not cheap at 5,000 KRW!

While I enjoyed having brunch here, I don’t think I’d specially drive here again, especially if I’m not headed to Haepoom Farm. It’s a little too out of the way, and I’d much prefer saving my stomach space and KRW for other cafés instead.

Hi! I’m Tofu V from Singapore.

My love for Korea stemmed from a love of K-pop and K-dramas that started more than a decade ago. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit Korea both as a tourist and a student. I’ve accumulated interesting experiences (mostly good, occasionally bad) along the way as I try my best to see as much of Korea as possible, and this blog is an accumulation of all that I’ve learned and tried.
